Songkran kicks off in Thailand on Sunday13th of April. The three-day festival marks the start of the traditional Thai New Year and is a major draw for tourists but for Thais Songkran is the most highly anticipated event in the Buddhist calendar and they celebrate the event enthusiastically. If you are going to be in Thailand in mid-April and venture outside during Songkran, there's a 99% chance that you will walk home soaked to the skin but I am sure that you will walk home happy as the Thai people's enthusiasm winds you in and make you part of their extended family. A word of advice when venturing outside...make sure that you put your phone, camera, wallet, handbags and anything else that can be damaged by water in a strong plastic zip-lock bag. Also in this month's magazine, the alternative retirement country is Indonesia but concentrating on where most ex-pats retire in the county, Bali. The magazine will also feature Khao Lak as a Thailand destination for expats to live.
